چکیده

In the reordering buffer problem a sequence of items located in a metric space arrive online, and have to be processed by a single server moving within the metric space. At any point in time, the first k still unprocessed items from the sequence are available for processing and the server has to select one of these items and process it by visiting its location. The goal is to process all items while minimizing the total distance the server moves. Englert, Räcke, Westermann (STOC’07) gave a deterministic O(D · log k)-competitive online algorithm for weighted tree metrics with hop-diameter D. We improve the analysis of this algorithm and significantly improve the dependency on D. Specifically, we show that the algorithm is in fact O(logD+log k)-competitive. Our analysis is quite robust. Even when an optimal algorithm, to which we compare the online algorithm, is allowed to choose between the first h > k unprocessed items, the online algorithm is still O(h·(logD+log h)/k)competitive. For h = (1 + ε) · k, with constant ε > 0, this is optimal. Our results also imply better competitive ratio for general metric spaces, improving the randomized O(log n · log k) result for n-point metric spaces from STOC’07 to O(log n · log k).

Estimating Height and Diameter Growth of Some Street Trees in Urban Green Spaces

Estimating urban trees growth, especially tree height is very important in urban landscape management. The aim of the study was to predict of tree height base on tree diameter. To achieve this goal, 921 trees from five species were measured in five areas of Mashhad city in 2014. The evaluated trees were ash tree (Fraxinus species), plane tree (Platanus hybrida), white mulberry (Morus alba), ail...

Chinese Syntactic Reordering through Contrastive Analysis of Predicate-predicate Patterns in Chinese-to-Korean SMT

We propose a Chinese dependency tree reordering method for Chinese-to-Korean SMT systems through analyzing systematic differences between the Chinese and Korean languages. Translating predicate-predicate patterns in Chinese into Korean raises various issues such as long-distance reordering. This paper concentrates on syntactic reordering of predicate-predicate patterns in Chinese dependency tre...

An Improved Oracle for Dependency Parsing with Online Reordering

We present an improved training strategy for dependency parsers that use online reordering to handle non-projective trees. The new strategy improves both efficiency and accuracy by reducing the number of swap operations performed on non-projective trees by up to 80%. We present state-ofthe-art results for five languages with the best ever reported results for Czech.

Improving Fluency by Reordering Target Constituents Using MST Parser in English-to-Japanese Phrase-based SMT

We propose a reordering method to improve the fluency of the output of the phrase-based SMT (PBSMT) system. We parse the translation results that follow the source language order into non-projective dependency trees, then reorder dependency trees to obtain fluent target sentences. Our method ensures that the translation results are grammatically correct and achieves major improvements over PBSM...

Phrase-based decoding is conceptually simple and straightforward to implement, at the cost of drastically oversimplified reordering models. Syntactically aware models make it possible to capture linguistically relevant relationships in order to improve word order, but they can be more complex to implement and optimise. In this paper, we explore a new middle ground between phrase-based and synta...
